Douglasville GA, population 31,000, enjoys a convenient location just 20 miles from the glitter and glam of downtown Atlanta and 10 minutes west of the thrill of Six Flags Over Georgia. Named for Stephen A. Douglas, Abraham Lincoln's opponent in the 1860 presidential election, Douglasville's history is rooted first in farming, then as a postbellum railroad town with a thriving commercial district. Today, the city's downtown area, with its vintage brick homes and offices, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
